Girlguiding Sussex Central Rainbows & Brownies ’Go for Gold’
On the afternoon of Sunday 15th September at the South of England Showground, Ardingly, Girlguiding Sussex Central county held a very special ceremony for its younger members who had gained their Rainbow or Brownie Gold Award
Caroline Hitchcock, Chair of Awards and Wendy Colson, County Commissioner welcomed over 40 Rainbows, Brownies & their invited guests to the first such event to be held within the county. It was noted that some of the girls had moved up to the next section since gaining their award and that there were many other Gold award holders within the county who had been unable to attend the event.
Before the actual presentation the girls were treated to a magic show performed by Andy Hiccup.
After discovering it was possible to tear a newspaper into tiny pieces & see it return to its original complete sheet by the wave of a hand, watch a jug of milk miraculously disappear into a cone of paper and many other tricks the presentation began.
To gain a gold award each girl must earn all the 6 programme theme awards of ‘Know myself’, ‘Express myself’, ‘Be Well’, ‘Have adventures’, ‘Take action’ and ‘Skills for my future’. Each is achieved by gaining 1 interest badge, completing 1 stage and 2 hours (Rainbows) or 3 (Brownies) hours of unit meeting activities of each theme. In addition, they must complete a final challenge
The Rainbows and Brownies were each presented with a county certificate by Janet Samuel and Lisa Barden, Sussex Central’s Vice Presidents who are themselves Rainbow & Brownie leaders
