Guides and Rangers Canoe Regatta 2024 – Parent Information

8.45AM TO 1.00PM

SUNDAY 30th June 2024



PAYMENT: £8 PER GIRL – Maximum of 8 girls per Unit, allocated on a first come first served basis.


Registration is to take place at 8.45 a.m. for only those who have prepaid. We are happy for people to come and watch on the day.


Girls do not need any experience in a canoe/kayak.


Please complete the consent form and pass to the Leader with full payment.

Information for Leaders and Parents

Race and Kit Information

All participants must be confident to swim 50m in water. A buoyancy aide is provided whilst on the water.

All events will be supervised by BCU qualified coaches.


The person in charge on the day has the discretion to deviate from any of the previously mentioned rules and in the event of any dispute their decision will be final.


A responsible adult/unit leader will be with each unit and/or individual whilst at water’s edge.


Please note the pontoon is for Regatta Officials only, any spectators should stand behind the fence or by the sides of the lake.

Open Race – maximum of 2 teams can be entered of either 2 or 3 girls per team. The aim of each team of 2 / 3 will be to race around the lake in a canoe collecting the various pieces to make a puzzle.  The winning team is the first team to arrive back to land and complete their puzzle in the fastest time, Heats will run with two teams per heat timed against the clock. Medals will be presented to the overall winners of this event with the fastest time.


Water Polo – maximum of 2 teams of 4 can be entered. Each girl has their own kayak. The event will be run on a strict knockout basis.  In the event of a draw the result will be decided by a golden goal. Medals will be presented to the overall winners of this event.


Duck Race – individual entry. This takes place in a kayak but no paddle. The aim is to collect as many ducks as possible in a specific time. Instant prizes will be awarded for this event.





Dress on the water should be as follows:

Old plimsoles/trainers        –  no bare feet

Swimming costume / wet suit     

shirt and shorts

Sun hat                                             

Sun tan cream (if hot)


In event of cold weather:

Old tracksuit bottoms

Old woolly jumper

Woolly hat


Spare Warm clothes and blankets to keep warm in between races.

Plastic bag to take wet clothes/shoes / wet suit home

Change of clothes to go home in


Car Parking for Parents and Girls

Car parking is available at the top car park entered from Mill straight, opposite Andrews Road, RH13 9EY or in the overflow car park at bottom of Cripplegate Lane.
